The ending of the book The Boy In Striped Pajamas” was surprising and really sad to me. In the end of the book Shmuel asked Bruno if he wanted to come and help look for his “Papa” and bruno said yes. Bruno digged a hole under the fence , put on the “Striped Pajamas” Shmuel gave him and went on the other side of the fence leaving his clothes on the other side. They arrive to the camp as the last group of prisoners being sent to the gas chambers… nothing more was heard from bruno and Shamuel after that. His father’s soldiers looked everywhere for him until one of them found a pile of clothes and pair of boots that belonged to bruno. Gretel (Bruno’s sister) and his mother went back to their home in Berlin divested. His father didn’t come back to Berlin, a year later he went back to where the pile of clothes were found and discovered that the fence wasn’t properly attached as it was everywhere else and when lifted it left a large gap, large enough for a little kid to crawl underneath and he had realized what happened to his little boy. “A few months after that some other soldiers came to out-with and father was ordered to go with them, he went without complinet and he was happy to do so because he didn't really mind what they did to him anymore” ( Boyne, 216).
This book matters because it really shows how poorly and unfairly the jews were treated. In this book you can really see what jews had to face everyday and how different their lives was from everyone else. The most valuable idea I takeaway from this book is to treat others how you want yourself and your loved ones to be treated. I think this because Bruno’s father was a Nazi commander and treated the jews horribly but he never thought that his own son could be treated like one of them. He realized was horrible things he had done after realizing that his son was killed in the gas chambers used to kill the jews. This book is valuable because it really opens your eyes about world war II and really the nazis.
